Menopuase Certified
I am thrilled to share that I have just completed my Menopause Bootcamp Certification with Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, a board-certified OBGYN and an esteemed teacher from the LMU Yoga Therapy program. This certification deepened my knowledge of how to support women through perimenopause and menopause, integrating both Western medicine and holistic practices like yoga therapy.
Menopause is a profound transition, yet it is often stigmatized in our society. Many women feel isolated or disoriented as they navigate the physical, emotional, and mental shifts that accompany this stage of life. However, yoga and yoga therapy provide powerful tools to help us embrace these changes with grace, resilience, and self-compassion.
I think, one of the most important aspects of yoga philosophy that applies to menopause is the practice of non-attahcment. Aparigraha (non-attachment) in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali state in Sutra 2.39: "When non-possessiveness is established, knowledge of the why and wherefore of existence is attained." This teaches us that by letting go of rigid expectations—about our bodies, our identities, and societal pressures—we create space for wisdom, self-acceptance, and new ways of being. Another relevant sutra is Sutra 1.2: "Yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ," meaning "Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind." This reminds us that through practices like breathwork, meditation, and movement, we can calm the nervous system and navigate menopause with greater ease.
From a Western medical perspective, menopause is a biological shift that can bring a variety of symptoms, including hot flashes, sleep disturbances, anxiety, joint pain, and cognitive changes. Treatment options such as Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be beneficial for some women, while others may find relief through lifestyle changes. Dietary adjustments—maintaining stable blood sugar levels, and reducing inflammatory foods—can significantly impact overall well-being. Additionally, specific forms of movement, including strength training, restorative yoga, and breath-centered practices, help maintain bone density, regulate mood, and support nervous system balance.
My goal is to help women embrace this transition not as a loss but as an evolution—a time to step into deeper wisdom, self-care, and empowerment. Through yoga therapy, education, and compassionate support, I aim to provide women with the tools they need to navigate menopause with confidence and vitality.
