I Believe in You. Do you?

Yoga has been, for many centuries, a lineage practice. You have a teacher, and your teacher had a teacher, and that teacher had a teacher, ad infinitum. Your experience in yoga gets passed down from generation to generation. I have been seeking out a teacher for a while that I could learn under. I am so thankful that I am now studying under Robert Brinberg.

Have you ever met someone and thought, “you were who I have been looking for, and I didn’t even know it?” All these years, Robert has been a stone’s throw away from where I live in Los Angeles. A year and a half ago, he moved to Australia, and now I have found him as my teacher. Ironic? Maybe. Or maybe I just had to be at this point in my journey and growth to know I needed him as my teacher. I don’t think a year ago I was in the space to be open to his teaching. I am grateful that so much more is available in my mind, and in the world, during this pandemic that didn’t have a path before. I can see Robert over zoom and learn and grow from our time together. I can do it after my daughter is asleep precisely because he is in Australia and on a different time zoom.

Yoga has been a path to healing for me in so many areas of my existence. This is the reason I started Serenity Yoga and am pursuing my Yoga Therapy certification. You guys, I love this stuff. I believe in the healing power for our body, mind, emotions, and spirit.

Here is how I see this play out in my own life.  I wake up each morning.  I take my triphila powder and hot water, and I go do my 45 minute morning practice. I do not like to miss a single day. I know what happens to me when I don’t start my day this way. I am more reactive. I am impatient with my family. I over-consume the news. My regulation center is off-center. Why is it so important to breathe, move, and write my gratitude list? Here is my personal experience. I am connecting my mind, heart, and body. I am breathing with intention. I am creating heart coherence.

Robert has been teaching me some of the reasons why these practices are so useful for me. He sent me an article that explained how positive feelings and thoughts add energy to our system, and negative ones deplete that energy. I know that at one stage of my life, I was exhausted all the time. I also know that I was consumed by negative thoughts that generated a whole host of events in my body at that point in my life. I have learned to create new patterns in my mind and heart; I am not so tired. I know that there is a different path than the one I was on before. More than anything, I know that I have options. There were points in my life that I believed I didn’t have options. I couldn’t see them; I didn’t know how to see them yet.

Wherever you are in your life today – I want you to know you have options. You can choose a new path when you feel stuck. You can create new ways of thinking and speaking about your life. I believe you can have the power to heal yourself. I believe in you!
